Luka Modri? ‘Excited’ by Potential D.C. United Move After Holding Talks With MLS Side

?Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modri? is believed to have held talks with DC United over a potential transfer.

United have never shied away from pursuing high-profile additions, having managed to lure Wayne Rooney from Everton back in 2018. With the Englishman completing his move to Derby County this January, they are on the lookout for their next star signing.

According to ?The Athletic, that could be ?Modri?, and club officials have already held talks with the Croatian midfielder over a potential move which could come as early as this summer.

The 34-year-old is thought to have just six months remaining on his current contract with ?Real, although ?AS claim that he is actually tied to Los Blancos until 2021. While he is still a regular starter in Zinedine Zidane’s side, he no longer appears to be an indispensable part of the team, having often found himself on the bench in recent weeks.

As a result, United have offered him a route away from the Santiago Bernabéu, and Modri? is thought to be excited by the idea of heading to ?Major Lea?gue Soccer after discussing the idea with his family.

However, the move is by no means a certainty. Modri? earns a huge wage in Madrid, and it would be incredibly difficult for United to come anywhere close to a similar offer for the former Ballon d’Or winner.

?AS, who have confirmed United’s interest in the midfielder, claim that it is not actually possible for the American side to afford Modri?, but it seems like they are going to continue to try anyway.

Even if they can find a way to afford the deal, United are still expected to face plenty of competition for Modri?’s signature, while Real could even opt to keep him around a little while longer as he is certainly still good enough.

He has made 18 appearances this season, racking up four goals and five assists. The emergence of 21-year-old Federico Valverde has put his place in the team under pressure, but Zidane still rates Modri? incredibly highly.
