James: I'm still getting used to Madrid

The creative midfielder is not fully adapted to the Santiago Bernabeu side yet and is looking forward to Tuesday’s Champions League match versus Basel

James Rodriguez has stressed that he is still getting used to his new surroundings following his summer move from Monaco to Real Madrid.

The attacking midfielder has yet to replicate the form he showed at this summer’s World Cup after his €80 million transfer but he is confident that he will improve over time.

“I am still adapting and getting used to my new surroundings,” the Colombia international said at a press conference.

“I’m in a new group and I’m gradually getting better. Every day I get better, physically and mentally.

“I just want to play and train. I came here as just another player and I want to train well to perform well when I play.”

The 23-year-old then went on to say that he feels honoured to be playing at the Santiago Bernabeu and is keen to make his first Champions League appearance for Madrid.

“The Bernabeu is a wonderful stadium, and it is great to play there. I always dreamed of playing here. Since I was a kid it has been something I wanted and now I’m here I want to give my all.

“I’m also happy to make my Champions League debut.”

Madrid meet Basel on Tuesday.
