Ancelotti: We will see if Casillas plays on Saturday

The Blancos boss was unwilling to disclose his starting shot-stopper for his side’s trip to the Madrigal, after Keylor Navas starred against Elche on Tuesday night

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says the public will have to wait and see which goalkeeper he opts to start against Villarreal on Saturday.

Debate has raged in recent weeks over which shot-stopper should be the Blancos’ first-choice, with Spain international Iker Casillas and Costa Rica’s World Cup hero Keylor Navas jostling for the position.

However, Ancelotti was tight-lipped when asked who would star at El Madrigal – after Casillas was dropped for Navas in Tuesday’s 5-1 victory over Elche.

“On Saturday, we will see,” the Italian told reporters.

“[Casillas has] played well [recently], with more balance and stability. Keylor was worked at some points, but it was quiet [for him against Elche, overall].”

The 55-year-old also talked about his policy of carefully managing his players’ game time throughout the season.

“I think right now rotation is important because all the players are well-motivated,” the former AC Milan boss stated.

“We have another game on Saturday and it is normal to rotate players to avoid injuries. Today [Tuesday], we rested Karim [Benzema] and [Luka] Modric and they will play on Saturday.”
