Karanka urges Madrid to keep winning

The Blancos assistant has said that they need to continue their momentum ahead of their Liga clash with Levante to compete in their remaining competitions

Real Madrid coach Aitor Karanka has urged the team to continue their impressive performances at home this season ahead of Saturday’s clash with Levante.

Los Merengues are, realistically, too far behind Barcelona in La Liga to retain their title, but still have the Copa del Rey and the Champions League to play for.

Before they host Levante the former defender believes they need to take maximum points in all games at the Santiago Bernabeu and suggested every member of the current squad needs to have that mentality.

“The important thing is that the team keeps up this streak, whoever it is that plays and whatever type of game it is,” the Spaniard told reporters at a press conference.

“It’s crucial to be strong on your home ground and the Santiago Bernabeu is a stadium where our opponents struggle.”

The Spaniard is wary of this weekend’s opponents but feels his squad will have no problem getting themselves in the right frame of mind to achieve another win.

“It’s a team that’s always there,” Karanka continued. “They have experienced players that give their all in every game. It’ll be tough because they’re fighting to qualify for the Europa League and they’ve played well in this competition this year.

“Real Madrid have players in the squad who have not played often and there is no better motivation for them than to play 100 per cent at these types of matches.”

The Granotes are 10th in the Primera Division and were beaten 2-1 the last time the two teams met in November.
