Kylian Mbappé Set to Remain at Paris Saint-Germain (for Now) Amid Real Madrid Interest

Paris Saint-Germain superstar forward Kylian Mbappé is expected to spend at least one more season in the French capital, despite attracting strong interest from Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old striker was bought by PSG for around €180m after joining the French top flight champions on loan in the summer of 2017.

Mbappé has averaged a goal contribution every 68 minutes in a PSG shirt

World Cup winner Mbappé has been nothing short of sensational since arriving from Monaco, scoring 90 goals in 120 appearances for PSG over the course of less than three full seasons.

Understandably this has garnered the attention of Europe’s elite but the coronavirus pandemic seems to have put a halt to any plans of an imminent transfer for the much sought after Frenchman.

According to the French publication l’Équipe (via AS) the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak has dissuaded Mbappé from pushing for a transfer this summer. Although, this has not disheartened Real Madrid in their pursuit of the forward.

Only Lionel Messi has been involved in more league goals than Kylian Mbappé since August 2018

Mbappé’s contract with PSG expires in 2022 but it’s thought that should he sign an extension, he will demand a release clause be inserted.

His teammate Ander Herrera has insisted that both Mbappé and fellow superstar forward Neymar are happy in Paris but Real Madrid are not the only European giant thought to harbour interest for Les Parisiens’ number seven.

The runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool have been perennially linked to the PSG starlet but despite Mbappé’s praise for Jürgen Klopp’s side, it appears the player’s focus remains Real Madrid.

With the European Championships set to be held in the summer of 2021, Mbappé’s decision to remain in Paris may have been helped by the fear of struggling to adapt to a new league, country and language before a major tournament. Coupled by the fact that the ambitious 21-year-old has also expressed his intention of competing in the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled for later that summer.
