Di Maria rules out leaving Madrid

The Argentina international has shrugged off reports that he is surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital and says that he intends to see out his contract with los Blancos

Angel di Maria has ruled out leaving Real Madrid – irrespective of the outcome of the club’s pursuit of Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

The Argentina international has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu ever since Jose Mourinho, with whom he enjoyed an excellent working relationship, announced his decision to step down as Blancos boss at the end of last season.

Di Maria’s future in the Spanish capital has been further cast into doubt by Madrid’s move for Bale, but the 25-year-old international insists that he has no intention of leaving.

“I have three years left on my contract,” he told reporters after Saturday’s 3-0 friendly defeat of Inter. “I am staying. I am very happy here.

“I just want to try and start the league campaign in the best way possible.”

Di Maria has made 90 Liga appearances for Real since joining from Benfica for a reported €36 million in 2010.
