Eden Hazard Sent to Dallas Clinic as He Looks to Recover From Ankle Injury in Time for Euro 2020

?Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard has been sent to a US clinic that specialises in basketball injuries, as he looks to recover from a fractured ankle in time for Euro 2020.

The Belgian suffered the injury setback in Los Blancos’ 1-0 win away at Levante on 22 February, just a week after he’d returned from another ankle injury that had kept him out of action since the end of November.

And according to Belgian news outlet HLN, Hazard has been sent to the Carell Clinic in Dallas, Texas, to be treated by a surgeon with experience of aiding in the recovery of basketball players.

The 29-year-old is expected to arrive in the States on Wednesday before undergoing surgery on his fractured ankle a day later.

Real Madrid maintains good relations with one of the surgeons at the clinic, Dr Dan Cooper – who is also the head team physician at the Dallas Cowboys. Cooper’s fellow surgeons, Dr Eugene Curry and Dr Daniel Worrell, meanwhile, hold a great reputation when it comes to foot/ankle injuries after the pair were responsible for aiding the recovery of NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki.

Nevertheless, Kris Van Crombrugge, doctor of the Belgian national team, is hopeful that Hazard will be fit for this summer’s European Championship: “The Americans have indicated that they are ‘very optimistic’ that Eden should reach the European Championships. It is not a serious injury by the way and Eden has not relapsed either, but surgery is necessary.”

Spanish journalist Melchor Ruiz has also tweeted that he expects Hazard to miss around two months of action before returning to training with the Real Madrid squad.

The injury sums up what has been a mightily frustrating season for the former Chelsea star in his debut campaign in Madrid.

The £90m man has scored just once since his summer arrival and has provided four assists in 15 appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s title-chasing side.
