Zinedine Zidane Lifts Lid on Sergio Ramos Contract Talks Amid Renewal Doubts

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said talks over Sergio Ramos’ contract ‘should be resolved quickly’, indicating he is very keen for his captain to put pen to paper despite some reported doubts over the club’s willingness to offer up an expensive extension.

The centre-back is one of the most decorated players in recent history having lifted four ?La Liga titles and four ?Champions Leagues among a list of honours as long as your arm.

You name it, he’s won it, and although he turns 34 next month, he remains a central figure both on the pitch and in the ?Real dressing room.

Such is his importance to the side that real concern was sparked by recent reports suggesting the club are baulking over his contract demands. Talks over extending his terms, which expire in 2021 as it stands, were ?said to be ‘frozen’ as he approaches the final year on his deal.

For all Zidane is as anxious as anyone to get him signed up for the long run, however, it seems his casual nature is unshaken by the apparent setback. The manager said, as quoted by Real-dedicated Twitter outlet Infinite Madrid, that it is a ‘simple matter’ and ‘should be fine.’

Zidane was speaking ahead of Real’s trip to Levante, where they will be hoping to either extend their one-point lead at the top of La Liga, but may have to win to retain that gap depending on how Barcelona get on against Eibar earlier in the day.

?Ramos has missed just five games this season – two through suspension and two through injury – and will have a major part to play if they are to win their fifth domestic title with him in the side.

They will also be hoping to see Ramos lift the Champions League for a fifth time and a fourth under Zidane, and have two last-16 legs against Manchester City to negotiate to further realise that dream – the first of which coming at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
