Gareth Bale Makes Injury Progress Ahead of Champions League Clash With Club Brugge

?Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale returned to training on Sunday after shaking off a hamstring injury, and he hopes to be back in starting lineup for El Clásico on 18 December.

Bale missed Saturday’s 2-0 win over Espanyol after picking up the injury, and it was initially thought that he could be set for a number of weeks on the sidelines to recover from this latest setback.

However, according to ?Mundo Deportivo, he has made a ‘miraculous’ comeback from his injury, and he is now expected to feature in some capacity in Wednesday’s ?Champions League clash with Club Brugge.

Having already qualified from their group behind Paris Saint-Germain, Los Blancos can only finish second in their group, so the game is certainly not an important one. As a result, Zinedine Zidane will give ?Bale some minutes during the game to try build his fitness back up.

If he makes it through that test, then Bale will likely be given a more prominent role in the next league game against Valencia, in the hope that he will be ready to start when they face ?Barcelona on 18 December.

Zinedine Zidane

With ?Eden Hazard, Lucas Vázquez, ?Marco Asensio and ?James Rodríguez all sidelined, Zidane has very few options on the wings, so Bale’s return will come as a huge boost ahead of Real’s most important game of the season.

Barcelona currently sit top of the ?La Liga standings, but only on goal difference as Real are just two goals behind.

Given how tight the table is right now, El Clásico looks set to be vital to either team’s hopes of pushing on for the league title, so Zidane will want as many options to choose from as possible.

The young duo of Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo started against Espanyol and they were likely to retain their places in the team over the coming weeks, but Bale’s return will give one a much-needed rest ahead of a hectic schedule of winter fixtures.
