Marco Asensio Undergoes Successful Operation After Sustaining ACL Injury in Pre-Season

?Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio has successfully undergone an opertation on an injuried anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury which he picked up during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal.

The 23-year-old was a half-time substitute at the FedExField and even scored to level the scoreline just before the hour mark, but Asensio was forced off the pitch with a serious injury and it was quickly learned that the Spain international had torn his ACL.

Although Asensio could still be action until the new year, Real Madrid have now confirmed that the forward has successfully undergone an operation although he’ll remain in hospital during the initial stage of his recovery.


“Our player Marco Asensio has been operated today successfully on the anterior cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of his left knee,” Real Madrid confirmed in a statement on their official website.

“The intervention was carried out by Dr. Manuel Leyes, with the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Asensio will remain admitted until hospital discharge. From that moment, he will begin his recovery work.”

Initially joining Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca in 2015, Asensio has established himself as one of European football’s most exciting footballers both at club and international over the last four years.

He’s gone on to make 135 senior appearances for Real Madrid since returning from a loan spell with Espanyol, having a direct involvement in 46 goals for Los Blancos.

Asensio has also broken into the senior Spain team on a full-time basis following his debut in 2016, featuring in all but one of their games at the World Cup in Russia and featuring in their last seven games on the bounce.
