3 Key Battles Which Could Decide the Madrid Derby on Saturday

As the two Madrid sides come together this weekend for the derby clash, both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will be in search of getting the elusive win to try and kick start their seasons.

Although the home side remain unbeaten in the league this term, draws have been their downfall and Real could take advantage of their with the attacking prowess in which they can offer, and who will be clinical in front of goal.

Here are three key battles where the game could be won and lost for either side.

3. Antoine Griezmann vs Sergio Ramos

The home side will be hoping that main man Griezmann will find his shooting boots this Saturday after only netting twice in the current campaign.

He will be up against Real captain Sergio Ramos and with the Spaniard’s experience of big games like the Madrid derby, it could turn out to be a rather tough day for the Frenchman.

Chances will be scarce and where Atletico could win this, they have to be clinical. They weren’t against Chelsea and ultimately paid the price with the last kick of the game.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo vs Diego Godin

Whilst in the side, Diego Godin has only conceded four goals, proving to be have a solid partnership with Stevan Savic, his defensive partner.

But Ronaldo, although the Portguese hasn’t had it his own way this season, always turns up for the big occasions. He is the top scorer in the Madrid derby with 21 goals, sitting way ahead of the nearest current Atletico player, and he’ll be looking to extend that record even further on Saturday.

1. Isco vs Lucas Hernandez

Lucas Hernandez has risen through the ranks at Atletico, and at only the age of 21, the Frenchman has already become an integral part of Atleti’s defence.

However with the centre-back playing the part-time role of left-back as a result of Filipe Luis’ absence, he could become rather uncomfortable on Saturday evening. Isco has been in fine form for Real Madrid in the attacking line and has fired in some vital goals.
