?Over the past couple of decades, the influence of money in football has increased significantly.

Earlier this year, Neymar’s €222m move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain shattered the world transfer record. And with player wages getting increasingly ludicrous, the prominence of money in football cannot be understated.

Players such as Carlos Tevez, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Oscar are being paid stupid money by clubs in the Chinese Super League, each earning over £400,000 per week.

Meanwhile, the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo pocket upwards of £20m per year, placing them among some of the world’s highest paid athletes.

There’s no question that if any club were to try secure the services of either Messi or Ronaldo, they would have to offer them top dollar in contract negotiations if they were to have any hope of enticing them to sign on the dotted line.

But, what would happen if a club offered them perhaps the most minimal contract possible? YouTube gamer, DTT decided to find out on his FIFA18 career mode, and the results were amusing to say the least.

Playing as PSG, he wanted to try signing Cristiano Ronaldo, and he even came to an agree with Real Madrid regarding a transfer fee. However, when it came to contract negotiations, the other party were far from satisfied.

He decided to see what would happen if he offered Ronaldo €1 per week with no signing on bonus, a far cry from the €560,000 per week demanded by the Portugal ace’s agent.

Upon receiving the offer Ronaldo’s mood visibly changes, with his agent doing all the talking for him, saying: “That’s not going to work. We came here hoping to finalise this transfer, but your revised offer is disappointing and Ronaldo no longer has any interest in joining your club. Maybe our paths will cross again. Bye for now.”

They then stand and leave the room, which is likely a far more measured reflection of how the negotiations would go in real life.
