Roy Keane on the challenge that ended Ronaldo's Euro 2016: It was great!

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes that Dimitri Payet’s challenge that injured Cristiano Ronaldo in the Euro 2016 final was completely fair and a “great tackle”.

The Real Madrid superstar had to be stretchered from the pitch after a collision with the West Ham playmaker early on in the game, with Ronaldo leaving the field in tears.

Payet later insisted he did not intend to harm Ronaldo, who watched on from the dugout as Portugal beat France 1-0 in extra-time, and Keane admits the tackle, although unfortunate, was fine.

He told ITV Sport: “It’s unfortunate. It’s not a foul. If anything it’s a great tackle, he’s just unfortunate with the trailing leg and the momentum of the tackle.

“Football is a physical game. We’re just glad he won, we couldn’t have stood anymore tears!”
