The midfielder may not be the most prolific, and indeed his on-field theatrics have earned him some detractors, but there can be no question of the anchorman’s quality in terms of vision, passing ability and defensive prowess – the final vote being case in point.
Picking up 37% (9196 votes) of the overall vote, Busquets finished ahead of his former coach Pep Guardiola 26% (6284), Fernando Redondo 29% (7142), Johan Neeskens 4% (894), Pirri and Uli Stielike, who both finished with 2%.
And so, congratulations to Sergio, who takes his place in Goal‘s all-time Clasico Ultimate XI, alonside Roberto Carlos, Sergio Ramos, Carles Puyol, Dani Alves, and Iker Casillas.
