The Juventus goalkeeper believes the former Real Madrid man has been the standout star but admits Petr Cech has been the “most complete overall”
Gianluigi Buffon believes Iker Casillas has been the best goalkeeper of his era but feels Petr Cech is the “most complete overall” over the past three years.
The 37-year-old made his professional debut 20 years ago and has gone on to win six Serie A titles as well as the World Cup with Italy.
“The best goalkeeper of my era has been Casillas,” Buffon told Marca. “He’s always been the best with his hands.
“People always say [Lev] Yashin, [Ricardo] Zamora, [Dino] Zoff, [Sepp] Maier and [Gordon] Banks.
“If I had to select those of my era, I’d say [Peter] Schmeichel, [Walter] Zenga, [Gianluca] Pagliuca, [Andoni] Zubizzareta.
“In the last decade, Cech and Casillas have been the best, while in the last three [years] I’d say [Manuel] Neuer, he’s fantastic in the air. The Czech though [Cech] is the most complete overall.”
