The Real Madrid star beat out Lionel Messi to the Golden Shoe last season, and his international boss highlighted the dangers of trying to remove him from a game
Portugal coach Fernando Santos has warned Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez against substituting Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo was awarded the fourth Golden Shoe award of his caeer on Tuesday, after he netted 48 goals in La Liga to help his team to second place behind Barcelona in 2014-15.
Santos accompanied Ronaldo to Tuesday’s ceremony, and later suggested the forward never wants to be taken out of a game.
“It is impossible to substitute Cristiano,” he told reporters. “He doesn’t like it at all, he always wants be on the pitch.”
Ronaldo celebrated his 30th birthday in February, Santos does not expect the Madrid star to slow down any time soon.
“The word that defines him is ambition,” he said. “He won’t be satisfied with this [fourth Golden Shoe], he’ll want the fifth, the sixth and the seventh.”
