The Rayo Vallecano coach is confident his side will do better than Granada against Madrid and hopes they can even spring a surprise
Rayo Vallecano coach Paco Jemez does not have any fears his side will concede nine goals in Wednesday’s La Liga match versus Real Madrid.
The Santiago Bernabeu outfit thrashed Granada 9-1 at the weekend, but the Rayo trainer is confident his side will do better and even hopes they can cause an upset.
“It’s highly unlikely that Madrid will put nine past us – it’s very difficult to get a result like that,” Paco Jemez told AS.
“It requires two things coming together: a team with a great deal of impetus and desire and also for the opposing team to play badly. That’s not to say it couldn’t happen but a lot of things could happen.
“It would be a bigger deal if we did that than Madrid putting nine past us and that is what we aim to do.
“I’ll be going to bed thinking that my team will put in the better performance and will win. If Madrid give their best and beat us, I will congratulate them and look ahead to the next game.
“We want to put Madrid under as much pressure as we can. We won’t worry about the result. Nobody likes losing but that’s the furthest from my mind right now. We confront these kinds of matches as a bonus.”
Rayo currently sit ninth in the Liga table with 38 points from 29 games, with Madrid still sitting in second position.
