The Real Madrid coach heaped praise on the Portuguese star ahead of his team’s Clasico match against Barcelona, saying he loves to watch him play
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible work rate enables him to make the most of his natural talent.
Ronaldo, who picked up his second successive Ballon d’Or in January, has established himself as one of Madrid’s finest ever players during his six years with the club and arguments over whether he is better than Lionel Messi have raged throughout his time in Spain.
Former Barcelona scout Josep Maria Minguella believes Messi to be the more naturally gifted player but says Ronaldo owes his staggering statistics to a career based on hard work and Ancelotti has also talked up the Portuguese’s drive to improve.
“A lot of people would be really surprised by him,” the Italian coach told FIFA.com.
“As I’ve said many times before, he’s a player who’s a one-off in terms of professionalism and responsibility, even at this level.
“He was born with extraordinary talent but he squeezes the juice from it and works on that talent thanks to a level of drive I’ve seen in few other players.”
When then asked if he enjoyed watching Ronaldo in action as much as he did Zinedine Zidane, Ancelotti added: “That’s right!
“Zidane was the player I most enjoyed in training, but Ronaldo’s the one I enjoy most in matches – he scores in virtually every game!”
Real travel to the Camp Nou to face their fierce rivals and league leaders Barcelona on Sunday, with a win in the Clasico enough to take los Blancos to the top of the table by two points.
