‘This might be best ever Real Madrid’

The Champions League winners spent over €100 million on bolstering their squad over the summer and impressed in beating Barcelona 3-1 last weekend

Granada coach Joaquin Caparros believes the current Real Madrid team may well be their best ever.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti led the club to a 10th Champions League title last season and added the likes of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez to the squad for a combined fee of over €100 million over the summer.

The Italian was criticised for also allowing Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, but Madrid have adapted well and are just a point behind Barcelona in La Liga after beating their rivals 3-1 last weekend, leaving Caparros in awe of their quality.

“This may be the strongest Real Madrid side we’ve ever seen, technically, tactically and physically speaking,” Caparros told Marca.

“They are going from strength to strength and I think the sky’s the limit for them, however well they are playing at the moment.

“Winning the longed-for 10th European Cup, ‘La Décima’, was vital in putting them in the position they are in now. It’s brought calm to the club.”

Granada host Madrid on Saturday and captain Mainz believes his side can cause an upset on Saturday, reminding Carlo Ancelotti’s men that they’ve done it before after a Cristiano Ronaldo own goal gave Granada a 1-0 victory in February last year.

“It’s not impossible to beat Real Madrid, it’s something we achieved two seasons ago and last season we beat Barcelona.

“Despite everyone being aware of how difficult the game will be, the team’s objective is to secure the three points… we will try to take advantage of our chances when they arise.”
