Neymar: Beating Ajax as important as El Clasico

The Brazil international is eager to continue his fine scoring form in the Champions League this week before facing Real Madrid on Saturday

Barcelona star Neymar insists his side consider beating Ajax to be as important as defeating Real Madrid this week.

The Brazil international has been in sublime form so far this season, scoring nine goals in as many appearances in all competitions, and he is keen to add to his personal tally in Tuesday’s Champions League game versus the Eredivisie champions before El Clasico on Saturday.

“Tuesday we have a match we have to win, and only after that we will start thinking about El Clasico. What is more important for me – scoring tomorrow or scoring at the Santiago Bernabeu? Both,” Neymar said at a press conference.

“It will be a very difficult and a very important match against Ajax. We always play to win but I believe Ajax to be a great team both in defense and in attack. We will have to work hard to win.”

Neymar added he is still relishing playing alongside Lionel Messi, but is equally excited at the prospect of lining up next to Luis Suarez, who could return to action in Madrid.

“For me Messi is the best player in the world, and I am happy to play with him. But Luis Suarez is there among the best too and I am sure he will bring many good things to our team.”
