Ancelotti warns boo boys: Stop whistling Casillas

The Italian coach wants supporters to back the goalkeeper after he was again the subject of taunts from the Santiago Bernabeu faithful on Tuesday night

Carlo Ancelotti has called for Real Madrid fans to drown out those whistling Iker Casillas following their dominant 5-1 win over Basel on Tuesday.

The club captain was heckled at by some at the Santiago Bernabeu when he was on the ball, however even more home supporters reacted by cheering him, creating a bizarre contrast whenever the goalkeeper was involved in the game.

Ancelotti has pleaded for positivity after goals from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema capped off a perfect Champions League group stage opener, to move on from their defeat to Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Sunday.

“We have to be positive,” the Real Madrid coach told reporters in response to being asked what his message to the whistlers was. “We would not hear the whistles if the fans sing loud enough over them.

“I’ve said I’m not going to talk about the goalkeepers before this game. I look at what Casillas did on the pitch, though, and I liked it.

“We’ve improved from Saturday and we’ve reacted well. The game was made easy because we started superbly. We pressed, we played good football, we had speed and tried to control from kick off.”

Real Madrid top Group B on goal difference ahead of second-placed Liverpool, who they face in the middle of next month after a clash with Ludogorets on October 1.
