The Shakhtar Donetsk boss says he would be happy for any of his charges to win a big transfer and feels the Brazilian has the ability to go to the top
Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has claimed that Douglas Costa is a superior player to Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez amid interest from AC Milan.
The Brazilian has been linked with a move away from the Ukrainian side of late due to the ongoing unrest in the country.
Lucescu insists that he would be happy for the player if he were to leave for one of Europe’s biggest clubs and insists that he has all the ability to become a star.
“I’m just proud if one of my players goes to a big club,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“But I want the deal to be done in the right way, with the team’s interests at heart. Look at James Rodriguez. He became known at Monaco, then went to the World Cup and then he moved to Real Madrid.
“Why can it not be the same for Douglas? For me, he is stronger than James.”
Douglas Costa has been at Shakhtar since 2010 and has since won the Ukrainian Premier League five times at the Donbass Arena.
