Varane: There's nothing wrong with my knee

The young defender is upset by suggestions that he has yet to fully recover from the operation he underwent last year

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has dismissed fears that he is still being troubled by a knee injury.

The young Frenchman broke into Jose Mourinho’s first team last season and quickly established himself as one of the most promising centre-halves in world football before being forced to undergo knee surgery at the tail end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Varane has struggled for regular game time this term under new Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti but insists he is not suffering any adverse effects from his injury problems of old.

“Many things have been said about my knee, but I don’t like jokes about my knee surgery,” he is quoted as saying by AS.

“The situation is clear: I was in good hands with Dr Herve Silbert. I keep in touch with him; he did a great job.

“All is well in the joint of my right knee and I don’t doubt it.”

The 21-year-old sat out training this week in a bid to maintain his fitness ahead of the Champions League final later this month.
