Ronaldo is '100 per cent' fit and ready for penalties

The Portuguese forward is in superb shape ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final against Atletico and was applauded by fans at Benfica’s stadium on Friday

Cristiano Ronaldo is fully fit for Real Madrid ahead of Saturday night’s Champions League final against Atletico in Lisbon and the Portuguese practised penalties in his side’s session at the Estadio da Luz on Friday.

Ronaldo pulled out of Madrid’s game at home to Espanyol last weekend in the warm-up, but Real claimed that was merely a precaution and the 29-year-old has trained normally this week.

“Had it been a final, he would have played,” coach Carlo Ancelotti said earlier this week of the decision not to risk Ronaldo last Saturday and the Italian added on Friday: “Cristiano has trained without any problems.”

A relaxed Ronaldo was in an upbeat mood at training on Friday as he greeted former team-mate Raul, gave a thumbs-up to the television cameras and responded with an affirmative nod when asked if he was feeling good by ex-Madrid forward Predrag Mijatovic.

Cristiano looked lively in training alongside his team-mates and even took time to practise penalties ahead of Saturday’s showpiece derby, smashing both efforts sublimely past Iker Casillas and into the top left-hand corner at the Estadio da Luz.

A Madrid source confirmed to Goal that Ronaldo is “100 per cent fit” for the final, his third in Europe’s premier club competition (he won one and lost another with Manchester United) but first since joining Madrid in 2009.

The 29-year-old, who broke through at Benfica’s city rivals Sporting Lisbon in 2002-03, was applauded by Portuguese fans in the stadium on Friday.

Ronaldo will be hoping for better memories at the Estadio da Luz, having lost the Euro 2004 final with Portugal to Greece at the Benfica stadium.
