La Liga Team of the Week: Jeered Ronaldo joined by Messi & Diego Costa

The Portuguese was booed by a section of the Bernabeu crowd but was excellent in Madrid’s victory over Rayo, while the Argentine and the Brazilian led Barca and Atleti to key wins

No change at the top. Atletico Madrid still lead La Liga after beating Athletic Bilbao at San Mames on Saturday, while Barcelona came through a difficult derby at Espanyol earlier in the day and stay second.

Real Madrid then thrashed Rayo Vallecano in the late match that same night, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men remain in third and a section of the Bernabeu crowd took out their frustration by booing Cristiano Ronaldo – even though the Portuguese had scored and played his part in two other goals.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Celta Vigo, Valladolid, Getafe, Levante and Malaga. Here, Goal looks at the standout performers from the 31st round of Liga action.

In goal, Yoel was oustanding as Celta edged out Sevilla in the Galicians’ impressive 1-0 victory at Balaidos.

At the back, his team-mate Hugo Mallo was also oustanding for Luis Enrique’s side. Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal helped Madrid to a clean sheet and scored in the 5-0 win over Rayo. David Navarro was also on target and defended well as Levante secured a valuable victory at Granada.

Koke shone for Atletico as he set up Diego Costa for the equaliser at San Mames and then scored the winner in a vital 2-1 success for Diego Simeone’s side, while Angel di Maria showed boundless energy for Madrid in their 5-0 rout. Cani impressed for Villarreal in their 1-1 draw with Elche, while Nordin Amrabat was the standout performer as Malaga edged out Betis 2-1 in an Andalusian derby which leaves the Sevilla-based side staring at the drop.

In attack, Diego Costa is in for his fine strike at Athletic and the Brazilian is joined by Lionel Messi, who led Barca to victory at Espanyol by converting the penalty in his side’s 1-0 win, and Ronaldo, who was booed but scored a fine first goal, assisted Carvajal for the second and played a part in the third as Madrid won 5-0.
