Ancelotti rules out Manchester United switch

The 54-year-old has been linked with becoming the next permanent manager at Old Trafford but says he plans to stay at Real Madrid “for a long time”

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti insists he has not been approached by Manchester United and has ruled out a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Louis van Gaal has already agreed a deal to become United’s next permanent manager after Netherlands’ World Cup campaign, while reports have suggested Ancelotti is also a frontrunner for the role.

Ryan Giggs is currently in temporary charge at Old Trafford until the end of the season and the 54-year-old says he is not interested in leaving the Spanish capital.

“I respect everyone,” said Ancelotti.

“I haven’t had contact with Manchester United.

“I want to stay at Real Madrid for a long time. It’s strange to discuss my future in the middle of a Champions League semi-final.”

Madrid travel to Germany for their Champions League semi-final second leg with a 1-0 lead over Bayern Munich thanks to Karim Benzema’s goal at the Bernabeu.
