Pique: Barcelona have cured 'Madriditis'

The 27-year-old has claimed his side have been the best Spain over the last decade but maintains the rivalry with the capital club “will last forever”

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes his club have a found a cure for what he has dubbed “Madriditis” after his side’s incredible success in recent years.

Barca have claimed La Liga six times in the last ten seasons as well as three Champions League titles between 2006 and 2011, while los Blancos have won the league just three times and have failed to land Europe’s top prize since 2002.

Although the 27-year-old has admitted that Madrid should be considered the greatest Spanish club of the past century, he has insisted that, over the last decade, his club has been the dominant force in Spanish football following their domestic and European triumphs.

“Madriditis? That was fixed in the last decade,” he told Spanish radio show Al Primer Toque. “Madrid have been a very successful club that has won many titles and nine European Cups. That gives them the best team of the last 100 years.

“But in the last 10 to 15 years we are there and are winning many titles in the present.

“We must remember the past, though. It’s a rivalry that will last forever. A team is better if the other is better.”

Both Barcelona and Madrid currently sit three points behind Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.
