Varane reveals defensive worries

The France international has urged his team-mates not to ignore their defensive duties and has set his sights on the full three points against Juventus

Raphael Varane has insisted that Real Madrid must improve in defence if they are to be successful this term and feels the entire team is responsible for their vulnerability at the back.

The Santiago Bernabeu side have conceded five goals in their last two games and Varane has acknowledged that they will have to do better in order to win silverware.

“We can improve defensively and for me it’s something that we have to improve together,” Varane stated at a press conference.

“It isn’t just an issue for the defenders, but for the whole team. If we all make a coordinated effort, we’ll improve.”

The France international then went on to stress that he’s happy to play alongside both Sergio Ramos and Pepe.

“I’m comfortable playing both with Ramos and Pepe. They’re different, but equally good.

“I don’t worry about who I’m playing with. I’m comfortable playing with both of them.”

Varane also had his say on Tuesday’s Champions League encounter against Juventus and insisted that Madrid must match the Serie A champions’ intensity.

“They need to win and they’re going to hit us with a fast pace and a lot of guts. We have to match the intensity that they’re going to bring to the match.

“We want to win because we’re looking to be group leaders.”

Madrid currently lead Group B with nine points from three games.
