Ribery confident of beating Messi & Ronaldo to Best Player in Europe award

The Frenchman believes there are few who can boast a better 2012-13 season than him and is confident his side can beat Chelsea in the European Supercup

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is optimistic about his chances of beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to Uefa’s Best Player in Europe award.

The France international played a key role in Bayern’s historic treble win last season and he believes there are few who would deny him the prestigious individual prize, currently held by Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta.

“Last season was perfect, so my chances of winning Uefa’s Best Player in Europe Award are certainly good,” Ribery told the official Bundesliga website.

“I was consistent. I’ve done everything I can. I’m tense, but also relaxed. There are not many people out there who would deny me the prize.”

Ribery then looked ahead to Friday’s European Supercup match against Chelsea and stressed that Bayern are determined to help head coach Pep Guardiola emerge victorious against his nemesis Jose Mourinho.

“It’s right that it’s a feisty meeting for the coaches. We are there to help our coach so that it’s a pleasant experience for him.

“We will give him our all and I’m confident it will happen.”

Friday’s encounter in Prague is scheduled to kick off at 20:45CET.
