Ahead of the Goal 50 on Monday July 29, our countdown continues with each of Goal’s regional managing editors this week choosing their best world XIs from 2012-13
This XI can beat any other team.
It is strong defensively with full-backs Philipp Lahm and David Alaba, who are excellent at staying back or going forwards.
The side also includes great midfielders – Andrea Pirlo, Gareth Bale and Franck Ribery – who can flourish in any type of attacking style whether that is shooting from distance, pinging in crosses or spreading passes short or long.
The forwards, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani, are able to score goals from almost everywhere in the opposition half – long shots, headers, free kicks and more. It’s an offence-heavy line-up but the old adage holds true: the best form of defence is attack.
Although, with a top goalkeeper like Roman Weidenfeller supported by centre-backs such as Thiago Silva and Raphael Varane, there is also a solid foundation.
