Casillas is the best goalkeeper in the world, says Michel

The former Madrid midfielder has voiced his dismay with Jose Mourinho’s growing list of “controversies” and has nothing but praise for Geoffrey Kondogbia

Real Madrid icon Michel has described Iker Casillas as the best goalkeeper in the world and hit out at Jose Mourinho for harming the club’s image.

Mourinho has publicly expressed his preference for Diego Lopez over the Spain skipper and created more controversy on Tuesday when he hit out at Pepe in a press conference, and Michel, who made over 400 appearances for the club between 1982 and 1996, feels the Portuguese coach is harming the Blancos‘ image.

“Some players at Real Madrid are untouchable because they’ve earned that status. Diego Lopez is in outstanding form, but Iker is the best goalkeeper in the world,” the current Olympiacos coach told Marca.

“The coach makes the decisions, though. Whether you like him or not, Mourinho has always acted the same way, for all his trophies.

“Maybe we used to be amused by him but we aren’t any more. Madrid aren’t doing themselves any favours with everything that’s been going on. There’s been one controversy after another in recent years.”

The former Sevilla coach then went on to discuss the future of promising youngster Geoffrey Kondogbia and stressed that he feels the Frenchman is good enough to play for a club like Barcelona or Madrid.

“He is a good passer and strikes the ball well. He’s very adept tactically, considering he’s only 19 (sic.), and has bags of ability. He’s more than a flash in the pan. He has real personality and force of character.

“He joined Sevilla in difficult circumstances but hasn’t been cowed. He’s good enough to play for Real Madrid or Barca: he’s a top player and will be up there with the best when he makes the step up.”

The 20-year-old has a contract with Sevilla until the summer of 2017.
