The Athletic Bilbao insists los Blancos never lose focus in domestic competitions, despite retaining their title now all but impossible
Marcelo Bielsa has moved to dispel claims that Athletic Bilbao’s clash with Real Madrid will be easier than anticipated, insisting los Blancos have not lost all focus on La Liga.
Jose Mourinho’s side have all but surrendered their title after falling 13 points behind leaders Barcelona with eight games to go, but Bielsa has warned that his side cannot expect an easy ride on Sunday despite Madrid’s looming Champions League semi-final with Borussia Dortmund.
“I have always encountered a Madrid who have never forgone their commitments in the league,” Bielsa told a press conference.
“As far as we see it, they will be completely focused on their game against Athletic.”
Despite stressing that Madrid will provide a stern test in the clash at San Mames, Bielsa did suggest that the players will have one eye on their European meeting with Dortmund – just as they would at any stage of the season.
“It’s very difficult for Real Madrid to go into any league match without having a European game to think about,” he added.
