The Real Madrid defender made his Bleus bow on Friday, and while he enjoyed the overall experience, he was disappointed to have seen a clean sheet slip
Raphael Varane says he is ready to build on his France debut after highlighting his error in the build-up to Georgia’s late consolation strike in Friday’s World Cup qualifier.
The Bleus ran out comfortable 3-1 victors over the Black Sea nation at the Stade de France, with the Real Madrid centre-back making his bow at the heart of defence alongside Mamadou Sakho.
However, Aleksandre Kobakhidze pulled one back for his side courtesy of Varane’s deflection and the Paris Saint-Germain stopper’s mistake, and the 19-year-old is keen to put the mix-up behind him.
“The stage and atmosphere were as I imagined. I really enjoyed my first match, but I can still do better, I’m young and I will not take it to my head,” he told Eurosport.
“I communicated well with Mamadou and everything went well behind us, too. At the end, I asked him to back off a bit, but the space meant I unfortunately had room to deflect the ball goal-bound.
“Against Spain, we will prepare for the game as we had planned and hope to get the best result possible.”
