La Liga Team of the Week: No Real Madrid or Barcelona players make it in

Barcelona and Real Madrid did not look quite themselves at the weekend after meeting in a gruelling Clasico clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Madrid lost their fifth league match of the season as they went down at Granada on Saturday, while Barca could only draw at Valencia on Sunday. And for the first time this term, no players from either side have made it into Goal.com‘s Liga Team of the Week.

In goal, Tono was a hero for Granada in the Andalusians’ surprise win over Madrid.

At the back, his team-mate Diego Mainz also helped frustrate the champions with a number of key interventions. He is joined by Valencia’s Ricardo Costa, excellent against Barcelona, and Real Sociedad’s Carlos Martinez, who impressed in the Basques’ win over Mallorca.

In midfield, Xavi Torres shone for Getafe in their win over Deportivo La Coruna, Ivan Rakitic impressed for Sevilla in the Andalusians’ success against Rayo Vallecano, Andres Guardado was Valencia’s finest player versus Barcelona and Emiliano Armenteros helped Osasuna to a vital three points against Celta Vigo.

Up front, Adrian Colunga scored as Getafe came from behind to beat Deportivo, while Sergio Garcia was a hero again for Espanyol and Alberto Bueno was excellent for Valladolid versus Athletic Bilbao, scoring his side’s first goal in an entertaining 2-2 draw.
