El Clasico set perfect example, says Del Bosque

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has spoken of his pride at watching El Clasico after the two teams put their differences aside to produce a fine spectacle on Sunday evening.

Barcelona and Real Madrid played out a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou and the former Los Blancos manager has praised both teams for the attitude they showed in an encounter which has been littered with controversy in recent years.

Matches between Spain’s two most decorated sides have become more famous for red cards and unsavoury incidents over the last few seasons, but the 61-year-old explained that the players helped set an example to the next generation of football supporters in the country.

“Not that long ago there was some behaviour that left a lot to be desired, but yesterday the players were fantastic and that must not be forgotten because these are the values that are transmitted to young people,” he explained as he collected the TELVA prize for science, arts and sport in Valencia.

“The fact they set an example was great,” he added.
