“I am not just saying this, I am sincere, I want to finish my career here. I would sign today for ten years if I could, but this is something that also depends on other people.”
Ronaldo gave an interview to Spanish newspaper Marca before heading off to Euro 2012, and it was clear that the Portuguese genius was buzzing after a fantastic season with Real Madrid.
The striker only missed 70 minutes of league football this season and his goals and all round play were a major factor in Madrid’s recapture of the Spanish title. He says that he wants to do even better next season, although I am not sure how he could.
The 27-year old Portuguese international was also full of praise for his countryman Jose Mourinho, attributing the success of Madrid directly to his coach. He praised the Madrid fans, and has forgiven them for giving him some grief earlier in the season. He claims that he has now connected with them and that is one of the reasons that he never wants to leave the club.
Ronaldo’s team mate Marcelo was quick to tell him that his praise of Messi was taken out of context. The Brazilian had said that Messi was the best footballer in the world, when he actually meant that he was the current World Footballer of the year. He also said that Messi was the hardest player to play against but the reporter had missed out the fact that he said since Ronaldo was on the same team, Messi was the most difficult opponent.
He admitted that he would love to win the Golden Ball this year, and some performances for Portugal like those he has given for Madrid will push the vote in his favour.
