Jose Mourinho has ended any possible speculation about his future at Real Madrid by signing a contract extension that will keep the Portuguese manager at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2016. He said “I need challenges that force me to try getting better and Real Madrid is the club that has forced me to do my best and improve as a coach and a professional.”
The news was warmly received by players, fans and backroom staff. He will now focus on repeating the league form of this season, while capturing the Champion’s league also. His first task was to try to reassure Gonzalo Higuain that his future also lies at Real Madrid and that he is a valuable part of the team.
It was reported that Paris Saint-Germain had met with the striker, and he was considering leaving Spain after seeing Karim Benzema preferred to him in the first team. Real Madrid president Fiorentino Perez met Higuain yesterday and assured him of his worth. Nothing is guaranteed yet, but the signs are good that Madrid will still have their talented trio up front next season.
