Real Madrid secured their 34th La Liga title with a 2-1 win over Villarreal on Thursday evening, much to the delight of their hordes of fans on Twitter.

Like with every inevitable title win, social media users everywhere were finally able to unleash the graphics and elegant prose that they had been planning for weeks.

Here are some of the very best we saw…

The trophy was sealed in pretty dramatic fashion too, thanks mainly to king of s***housery Sergio Ramos.

Every good title winning story needs a memorable moment and in this truncated, complicated season Ramos finally provided Real Madrid with that moment.

It’s been an mad year for lots of reasons and his and Karim Benzema’s penalty antics were a fitting way to bookend Los Blancos’ 34th title winning campaign.

The Real skipper burst forward and took a dramatic tumble in the box to earn his side a spot kick. Running up to strike the ball from 18 yards, Ramos performed a ridiculous dummy, which bamboozled Villarreal keeper Sergio Asenjo and allowed Karim Benzema to stroke home.

Cue a Twitter meltdown…

Unsurprisingly, the referee ordered that the penalty be retaken.

Again, Benzema made no mistake – except this time he received no help from his longtime teammate.

The goal closed the gap between the Frenchman and Lionel Messi in the race for the Pichichi Trophy, leading some to suggest that Ramos had done it on purpose…

Real survived a late scare when Vicente Iborra netted for the visitors with seven minutes of normal time left to play, to hold on to the win they needed to secure their 34th Spanish top flight crown.

A lot of the chatter on social media focussed on the whimper that Barcelona went out on, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to mid-table Osasuna.

Of course, no Real title win would be complete without some Gareth Bale related nonsense…

The Welshman clearly didn’t fancy congratulating his manager on another major trophy.
