The draws for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the 2019 Champions League have been made ahead of the delayed competition’s scheduled restart in early August.

The explosion of the coronavirus crisis in March forced UEFA to put the competition on hold while some last 16 ties were still to be completed. But the date for resumption is now nearing.

Only Atletico Madrid, who knocked out holders Liverpool in the last 16, Atalanta, RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain are currently assured of their place in the quarter-finals.

Bayern Munich are well placed to qualify because of their commanding 3-0 last 16 aggregate lead over Chelsea, but it is still all to play for in the incomplete ties between Real Madrid and Manchester City, Barcelona and Napoli, and Juventus and Lyon.

Owing to the delays, this season’s Champions League will now be completed as a straight knockout mini-tournament in Lisbon over a 12-day period next month, with the 2020 final to be played at Benfica’s Estadio da Luz in the Portuguese capital on Sunday 23 August.

Sporting CP’s Estadio Jose Alvalade nearby will serve as a secondary venue for the competition.

The remaining last 16 legs will be concluded a few days earlier on 7-8 August, with UEFA confirming this week that they will take place at the original intended home stadium of the teams involved.

The quarter-finals will be played between 12-15 August, with semi-finals on 18 and 19 August.
