Kylian Mbappé to Sign New PSG Deal – But ‘Will Demand’ Release Clause Is Inserted Into Contract

Kylian Mbappé is ‘expected’ to sign a new contract to extend his stay with Paris Saint-Germain, but it is said that he will demand a release clause that will ‘permit him’ to secure a move to Real Madrid or another one of Europe’s elite.

The 21-year-old has continued to show this season why he is already considered as one of the world’s very best players, netting 30 times and providing 17 assists in just 33 appearances in all competitions. Ligue 1 have now decided to cancel the season, but award PSG the title.

Mbappé’s contract is due to expire in 2022, and this has only further increased the interest in his services. However, in an attempt to convince him to stay, PSG have offered to make the World Cup winner one of the world’s highest-paid players, along with Neymar, who currently earns somewhere in the region of £600,000 per week.

AS report that Mbappé is ‘expected’ to sign the contract extension with PSG, even though he is still considering his next career move. However, he will demand a release clause is inserted into the new deal, which would ‘permit’ him to depart for Real Madrid or another top European club.

This buy-out clause will inevitably be exceptionally expensive, however. AS add that it is ‘likely’ the release clause would be greater than the €222m PSG paid to bring Neymar to the club. While this won’t tie Mbappé down for the long-term, PSG will be ‘happy’ with the arrangement.

It is further noted that Mbappé has insisted that this release clause is inserted into the new deal, which is expected to be either a two or three-year extension. As a result, Real Madrid will now ‘shelve’ their plans to bring him to Madrid.

The attacker has long attracted interest from Los Blancos, and a source told 90min in April that Real could look to take advantage of UEFA’s willingness to relax Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions as a result of the coronavirus, and move for Mbappe. But while Zinedine Zidane has made the player his top target, Los Blancos may struggle to pull this one off anytime soon.
