The 24-year-old has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Sevilla and Villarreal but now wants to make his mark at Santiago Bernabeu when he is given the opportunity
Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev has admitted he is not scared of challenging Cristiano Ronaldo for a place in the starting XI.
The Russia international has spent the past two seasons out on loan, first at Sevilla and then Villarreal, but was not allowed to leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer despite reported interest from Valencia.
And the 24-year-old revealed he almost left the Spanish capital during the transfer window, but is now ready to fight for his place despite his illustrious team-mates.
“It was decided by the club [that he would not leave]. It shows Madrid didn’t want anyone to sign me,” he told Sport Express.
“There was interest [over the summer] and even a proposed transfer, but Madrid didn’t want to let me go.
“I realise Cristiano Ronaldo plays in my position but that doesn’t frighten me. When I get a chance, I’ll try to take it. I’m not afraid of anything.”
The winger also revealed Madrid have inserted a €200 million buyout clause in his contract, reinforcing the Russia international’s worth to the club.
