The ex-Blancos forward is in no doubt that his fellow Brazilian has the talent and the temperament to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the game
Julio Baptista believes that Cruzeiro team-mate Lucas Silva can become “one of the biggest names in football” if he joins Real Madrid.
The former Blancos forward has won two Brasileirao titles playing alongside the 21-year-old midfielder, who earlier this week revealed that he is edging closer to a “dream” move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
As a result, Baptista is in no doubt that Lucas Silva has both the talent and the temperament to thrive in La Liga.
“He is an amazing player,” the striker is quoted as saying by AS. “He is Brazilian but he is the player here who most fits the European profile.
“He is a midfielder who has a great feel for the ball and that’s why he’s being noticed. He is very talented and he is very young.
“He is also grounded. He wants to learn and that is very important.
“If he starts doing at Madrid what he has been doing here he will be one of the biggest names in football in no time at all. He is a very complete player.”
Baptista joined Madrid from Sevilla for a reported €24.5 million in 2005 but never managed to establish himself as a first-team regular and, after a loan move to Arsenal midway through his three-year spell with los Blancos, he eventually departed for Roma on a permanent basis.
However, despite the fact that he failed to make the grade at the Bernabeu, he has nothing but fond memories of the club and feels Lucas Silva would love life in the Spanish capital just as much as he did.
“The best advice is to go with the experiences that come your way,” the ex-Brazil international added. “It will be the best experience of his life.
“But he needs to learn as quickly as possible because the faster he learns, the better he will be with Madrid.”
Cruzeiro have already admitted that they are willing to cash in on Lucas Silva but that they will not let him leave for anything less than €15m.
