'Ronaldo is more complete than Messi'

Villarreal boss Marcelino says the Portugal international is a superior player to the Barcelona star as he prepares his side to face Real Madrid

Villarreal coach Marcelino says Cristiano Ronaldo is a more complete player than Lionel Messi.

The former midfielder says the Real Madrid forward and the Barcelona man are the two best footballers in the world but claims the Portugal star – who will face his side on Saturday – is the greater all-round performer.

“Cristiano, taking into account all surfaces, is the best in the world,” the 49-year-old told ‘El Partido de las Doce‘.

“He is better than Messi both with his feet and with his head. He is the more complete in the end – he has more resources because [he is good in] the air and hits the ball well with both feet.

“Messi has more trouble finishing with his right foot and because of his stature does not dominate in the air.

“[And] It is difficult to find a better header of the ball than Cristiano. To me they are the two best players in the world.”

The former Sevilla boss also talked about the success of Real Madrid’s summer transfer business, claiming the sale of Xabi Alonso could be significant.

“I think it’s about giving time to the team,” he continued.

“Xabi Alonso for me is a great player and a loss in a very important position.

“I do not think they have another player who can play that position. They have also lost height with the departure of [Angel] Di Maria, although the top three have that.”

Real Madrid take on Villarreal on Saturday at 16:00CET.
