Don't compare Di Maria and Ozil – Ancelotti

The Argentine has been tipped to make a shock exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, in a similar fashion to his former team-mate’s departure last summer

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed comparisons between Mesut Ozil’s exit last season and the continued speculation surrounding the future of Angel di Maria.

The European champions have signed James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos this summer, leading to rumours he could depart the Santiago Bernabeu.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with his signature but Ancelotti insists he remains a key member of his squad and could even start against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

“Di Maria is available like all the others,” he told reporters.

“He may start the game and have an opportunity. Tomorrow one team will play, then another will on Friday.

“I don’t remember what happened with Ozil. I won’t go into this issue because I’ll lose concentration. Di Maria is ready to play and to help us.

“Until August 31, this will be the case. Everything will be normal whether he stays or he goes.”

Ancelotti also voiced his confidence that James will soon start to shine following his big-money move from Monaco this summer.

“I think James did well against Sevilla [in the Uefa Super Cup] as others did. But he changed his usual position and played a little deeper. He’s getting used to it.

“We’re testing him in that position, but he can play elsewhere too. The problem is that he’s getting used to playing deeper.”

Finally, the Italian denied that Diego Lopez was forced out of the club this summer following the goalkeeper’s move to AC Milan.

“Diego Lopez decided to go. Nobody threw him out. It’s no relation to his performance last year when we had two good goalkeepers. This year we have three good goalkeepers.”
