Isco's goal made the difference, says Ancelotti

The former PSG coach admits his side struggled in the opening stages of the game and hailed Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema’s display

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti feels that Isco’s goal made the difference in Tuesday’s Champions League win away against Galatasaray.

The Santiago Bernabeu side struggled early on but eventually cruised to a comfortable 6-1 victory, after the young Spaniard broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute.

“It’s true that we struggled a bit in the first half, above all at the start of the game. Then Isco scored, which calmed us a lot, and after that the game changed and things became easier for us,” Ancelotti said after the match.

“I think we started the match with a bit of a lack of confidence and did not show the right attitude to be able to control the game. But it was the first Champions League match in a very tough stadium to play in, so it’s only normal.”

The Italian coach then went on to voice his satisfaction with the final result and hailed the performances of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, who scored a hat-trick and a double respectively.

“It’s a fantastic result. The result is great for us, good for boosting our confidence, personality and character.

“When Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema both have good nights it makes things that much easier.”
