Real Madrid want Higuain to stay, insists Perez

The Blancos president says the club still hope to keep the Argentina international at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, despite interest from Arsenal

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has insisted that the Liga giants want Gonzalo Higuain to stay with the club.
The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his forward line ahead of the new season.

However, speaking to Univision, Perez was adamant the Liga runners-up still hoped to retain Higuain, saying: “We don’t want him to go.”

Perez also claimed that Madrid have yet to receive a bid for the Argentine, although it is understood the north Londoners returned with an improved €27 million offer for the 25-year-old last Thursday.

Higuain was Madrid’s second highest goalscorer in La Liga last season, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, with 16 goals in 28 appearances for the club.
