Tottenham are on the verge of losing 26-year old Croatian international playmaker Luka Modric, and Real Madrid seems to be his destination. Modric nearly went to Chelsea last summer but Spurs chairman managed to hold them off on deadline day.
This time he will have to accept that Modric is desperate to move after Spurs failed to secure a place in the Champion’s league. The player was also close to Harry Redknapp who was sacked as manager of the team earlier this summer.
Madrid have faced competition from Manchester United and Manchester City, along with Chelsea but have almost won the battle. Reports claim that Modric will soon sign for Madrid in exchange for Nuri Sahin and 25 million euros.
Jose Mourinho still likes the Turkish international midfielder but his career at Madrid has stalled due to injuries and strong competition for places. Tottenham have agreed to the deal for two reasons. They have an instant replacement in 23-year old Sahin, and Modric will not be playing for one of their league rivals.
Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has urged Modric to join the Chelsea revolution, but Modric has set his heart on the Spanish La Liga and the chance to play for Mourinho. He will fit perfectly in to the midfield for Madrid and should help to keep Madrid at the very top of Spanish football for years to come.
